Local Learners is run by Luke Gallagher as a sole trader (ABN 99 285 301 003) in Sydney, NSW. This page explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can ask us to delete it. We follow the principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, even though we are below the $3M turnover threshold that makes them mandatory.
What we collect
From the contact form on this website
- Your name and email address
- Your child's first name and year level (if you choose to share them)
- The content of the message you send
From the parent app (app.html)
- Your email address (used to sign you in)
- Your name and role (parent or tutor)
- Your children's first names, year levels, and subject curricula
- Records of tutoring sessions: date, duration, what was covered, brief notes about what worked, what didn't, and the next step, and an optional mood reading from your child
- Skills your child is working on and their status (not yet, working, mastered)
- Measurable metrics you and the tutor decide to track (e.g., reading words-per-minute, times-tables score)
- Messages exchanged between parent and tutor inside the app
- Notification preferences (whether you've opted in to email updates)
- For tutors only: invoice records associated with the family
From tutoring sessions themselves
- Notes the tutor takes about how your child is going (entered into the parent app)
- Where sessions are held in person, the address you've agreed to (kept in the tutor's calendar, not in the app database)
What we don't collect
- Payment details — invoices are issued and bank transfers are made outside the app. We don't store credit card numbers anywhere.
- Locations or device data beyond what is required for sign-in
- Analytics about your behaviour on the marketing site (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel)
- Photographs, videos, or recordings of your child unless you explicitly send them to us
How we store it
The parent app's database is hosted on Supabase. Each family's data is protected by Postgres row-level security policies — parents can only see their own family's records, and tutors can only see families they've been attached to. Information you submit through the contact form arrives in Luke's email inbox (luke.gallagher1@outlook.com) and is not stored anywhere else on this website.
How we use it
- To deliver tutoring: planning sessions, tracking progress, and writing notes that help your child learn
- To reply to your enquiry
- To issue invoices and accept payment for tutoring sessions
- To send email updates if you've opted in (e.g., a notification when a session has been logged)
We do not use your information for marketing to third parties, and we do not sell or trade it.
Who else sees it
- Supabase (US/EU-hosted) — our database and authentication provider. They process the data on our behalf and don't use it for any other purpose.
- Resend (if email notifications are enabled) — used to send transactional emails from the app to the email address you signed up with.
- Your bank and ours — for invoice payments.
- Government agencies — only if required by law (e.g., a court order, ATO audit).
We don't share your child's information with schools, other tutors, or anyone else without your specific written request.
How long we keep it
- While your child is being tutored, and for the remainder of that calendar year
- Invoices are kept for 7 years to satisfy ATO record-keeping obligations
- You can ask us to delete your account and family data at any time by emailing luke.gallagher1@outlook.com
Your rights
You can:
- Ask us what information we hold about you and your child
- Ask us to correct anything that's wrong
- Ask us to delete your data (subject to the invoice retention period above)
- Opt out of email notifications at any time from the More tab in the app
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you think we've mishandled your information
Children
This is a service for children, but accounts are held by their parents or guardians. Children don't sign in to the app directly. Any information about a child is provided by their parent and used solely to deliver tutoring to that child.
Cookies and tracking
The marketing pages on this site (Home, Subjects, Inside the app, Pricing, About) do not use cookies or any analytics tracking. The parent app (app.html) uses the standard Supabase authentication cookie to keep you signed in.
